when i speak to you from my childhood bedroom

it is not just me who is answering your corporate questions

it is all my unwise decisions

it is all the times i won in school competitions

it is all the times i accidentally painted the floor

it is all the times i unlocked that very door.

for these decisions have been my very soil

the competitions were the water to my seed

painting the floor is how i grew my stem

the first time i locked that door and slept alone

was my first leaf

and these shall be what grounded me

forever.

so i won’t change for you,

man with a suit and tie

for i want to become

the tree touching the sky.

P.S. this is a poem I wrote at 14, after my very first interview to join a club, the experience of which got me thinking about professional job interviews and their implications, which inspired these words.
